Forensic Match Gives Investigation Clear Direction
The investigation into the 10 November Red Fort car blast has gained clarity after AIIMS confirmed through DNA profiling that the remains inside the Hyundai i20 belonged to Dr. Umar Un Nabi. The confirmation has allowed agencies to firmly identify the primary operative behind the explosion that killed 13 people near Red Fort Metro Gate 1. A severed hand found nearly 300 metres away highlighted the impact of the blast and helped investigators map the point of ignition.
Faridabad Detention Strengthens Probe
Faridabad Police have detained a man linked to the red Ford EcoSport that investigators believe was the second vehicle prepared by the module. The SUV, traced to a relative of Umar, has been sent for detailed forensic testing to determine whether it contains explosive residue or structural alterations similar to those identified in the i20. Officials say the detention has opened a significant investigative path, especially as the EcoSport appears in movement logs that coincide with the days leading up to the blast.
The detention has also helped investigators map the vehicle’s recent travel patterns, including possible storage locations outside Faridabad. This lead is now considered one of the most important developments after the DNA confirmation.
Professionals, Diaries and Coded Notes Under NIA Lens
The case has taken an unusual turn with the emergence of a white-collar network involving doctors, clerics and trained professionals.
Diaries recovered from Umar and co-accused Dr. Muzammil have become central to the investigation. The notebooks contain handwritten codes, route sketches, lists of people and references to dates between 8 and 12 November, suggesting movement plans and possible target zones.
Raids in Jammu and Kashmir have led to the detention of ten persons from Srinagar and Pulwama for questioning. Officials say some names and numbers found in the diaries match individuals now in custody.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has detained a Kanpur-based cardiologist for suspected links to arrested doctor Dr. Shaheen, further widening the circle of individuals under scrutiny.
Investigators believe the group operated in smaller units with minimal cross-communication, a pattern associated with organised urban modules.
Clerics From J&K Now Under Watch
Separately, the National Investigation Agency is examining the roles of two clerics from Shopian and Ganderbal, whose earlier arrests in unrelated cases are now being re-evaluated in light of the Red Fort blast.
Phone logs, chemical purchase trails and financial exchanges have drawn a tentative link between the clerics and the Faridabad module responsible for procuring explosive materials. This has raised concerns about a deeper recruitment and radicalisation chain extending across districts.
Stronger Security and Government Direction
The Union Cabinet has formally categorised the blast as a terror attack carried out by anti-national elements. Following multiple review meetings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have instructed agencies to complete the investigation across all operational, financial and digital layers.
Delhi Police have stepped up checks across crowded markets, metro stations and heritage precincts. Second-hand car dealers have been asked to verify all recent transactions, especially involving older models suitable for conversion into bomb-laden vehicles. Mumbai Police have imposed restrictions on drones and large gatherings ahead of Republic Day.
Community and Global Reactions
Prominent Muslim scholars and civil society groups have condemned the attack, stressing that it violates religious and humanitarian values. Their statements, officials say, have helped prevent communal tensions during a sensitive period.
International attention has also increased. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the blast as a clear act of terrorism and commended India’s measured and capable investigative response. He added that the United States is prepared to extend cooperation if required.
Future Course of Inquiry
The Red Fort blast investigation is no longer limited to a single vehicle or suspect. With DNA confirmation establishing the identity of the accused, the focus has now shifted to the broader network that allegedly planned a multi-city, multi-vehicle attack. The coming days will be critical as agencies trace the missing vehicles, decode diary entries and verify connections between doctors, clerics and supporters across states.
